A figure faces the viewer head-on, centered and perfectly symmetrical, with the face entirely hidden. A low, flat-crowned black hat covers the upper face, while a dense bouquet of warm-toned oak leaves, held chest-high in one bare hand, covers the rest. A wide poncho fans out edge to edge across the lower frame like folded wings, striped in cream, terracotta red and black with small diamond motifs.

Soft, even light and a flat, matte picture plane give the portrait a still, mysterious quiet. Visible canvas grain and soft brushwork lend it an aged, hand-painted, naive folk surface in a palette of muted olive, rust and dusty gold.
