About this work
Dark oxblood dahlias and garden roses cluster densely along the bottom edge, mixed with rust-red and sage-green foliage sprays and sprigs of small red berries. Higher up, the arrangement thins into loose dried wildflower stems and sparse branches reaching into an open, empty background.
Thick palette-knife impasto builds the heavy clusters below, while the upper background turns thinner and more washed. Soft, even light and gentle blending at the edges of petals and leaves give the piece a warm, nostalgic, slightly moody calm in oxblood, terracotta, cream, and sage.
