About this work
A single naive mummy sits in the middle of a dark field, built from a stack of thick horizontal and diagonal cream bandage strips wrapped around a rounded, blocky body. A dark band crosses the face, with two small round cream eyes and tiny dark pupils peeking out. Two short loose strips stick out like stubby arms, and a rounded cap of bandages tops the head.
Drawn in chalk or soft pastel on charcoal paper, the cream shapes have crumbly, broken edges, and the background carries fine dusty speckles and faint mottling. With no ground line, props or shadow, the flat two-tone contrast gives it the feel of an old blackboard drawing, quietly spooky and gentle.
