Three round little birds perch in a row on a thick branch heaped with snow. Each wears a red knitted hat with a fluffy white brim and pom-pom, and they seem to be chatting in turn.

The background is a soft, misty wash of cream, grey and pale gold, with snow-dusted evergreens and a glow of low light. Flecks of yellow and white drift through the air, and thick strokes of paint on the snow-covered branch give the scene a tactile, storybook feel.
