A single very tall evergreen, glowing with small golden lights, stands at the center of a snowy village green, flanked by rows of snow-roofed clapboard houses with lit windows and chimneys. A slender white church steeple rises among bare trees at upper left, and soft hills roll along the right horizon.

Cool twilight blue meets the warm amber glow of windows and tree lights, which spill halos onto the snow. Cream flecks of falling snow fill the sky, and a few tiny loosely painted figures and a small deer stand near the foreground at right.

Thick buttery impasto in the snow, thinner scumbled paint in the sky and a visible linen weave give it the aged, muted patina of a mid-century Christmas illustration.
