About this work
A glazed stoneware pot sits at the center of a narrow tabletop, holding an asymmetric spray of dried branches and leaves that extends left and right. Faded wildflowers and curling vine tendrils mingle with the foliage against a plain wall, with a low horizon where wall meets table.
Soft, even daylight falls across the scene with gentle shadowing beneath the pot and no harsh highlights. The oil painting is loosely brushed, with soft-focus edges on the leaves rather than crisp botanical detail; woven canvas grain shows in the background, and thicker, impasto-like dabs form the leaves and petals. Parchment, terracotta, olive and taupe tones make for a quiet, nostalgic, rustic mood.
