About this work
A cobblestone village street recedes in deep perspective toward a distant white church steeple. White picket fences and colonial-style red and cream houses line both sides, and tall rust and amber trees arch inward to form a canopy over glowing jack-o'-lanterns.
In the lower middle ground, a small group of children in vintage witch hats, capes and long dresses walk hand-in-hand away from the viewer, carrying pumpkin-shaped treat pails. Warm window light and lantern glow stand out against the cooling dusk sky.
Loose brushwork and soft impasto dabs build the foliage and fallen leaves, while the sky is blended smoothly. A gentle haze and muted contrast give the scene a nostalgic, gently spooky warmth.
