About this work
Two large, gnarled trees lean inward to form a natural archway over a small stone cottage, its windows and doorway spilling warm light into the twilight. A winding stone path leads toward the door, lined with glowing carved jack-o'-lanterns.
Two softly rendered, friendly ghosts stand among the underbrush, a black cat walks the path, and small bats are silhouetted against the dusky sky above the roofline. The warm glow of lanterns and windows contrasts gently with a cool, hazy sky.
Painted in oil with visible brushwork and soft impasto in the foliage and bark, the picture has a matte, painterly finish and a cozy, whimsical, nostalgic feel.
