A cluster of tall willows in early spring leaf anchors the right of the canvas, while a small farmhouse and barn with a hay-covered outbuilding nestle just left of center in the middle distance. A narrow stream or pond runs through the green meadow in the foreground.

Short, broken dabs of paint build the foliage and grass, while the sky is thinly and softly blended with the canvas weave showing through. Color cools and softens toward the distant hills, and diffused overcast light gives the whole scene a gently glowing haze that feels serene, pastoral and nostalgic.
