A spiky Joshua tree rises from a desert floor of sage-green shrubs and dark rocks, its branches outlined against a glowing band of orange and gold at the horizon. Far-off mountains sit in purple shadow beneath the fading light.

The paint is thick and sculptural. Visible knife and brush strokes ripple through the deep blue sky and across the ground, so the scene reads as bold and tactile.
