About this work
Two crows, rendered as flat, confident silhouettes, perch facing each other on gnarled branches near the center of the scene. Clusters of maple leaves frame the upper corners and open onto a soft, hazy sky, while a low, blurred tree line dissolves along the bottom edge.
The whole picture is held in a single sepia and umber tone, in the style of antique toile de Jouy design. A faded linen-textured wash covers the surface, with loose dry-brush strokes in the leaves and soft, mottled bleeding at the edges, giving the feel of a vintage engraving or antiqued textile.
