A wide, calm lake stretches toward dark hills that fade into fog. Heavy grey clouds hang over the valley and are reflected almost unbroken in the water.

The palette is limited to slate blue, deep teal and a little olive green on the right-hand shore. Soft, blended brushwork keeps the distance vague, while a few thin strokes of lighter paint on the water give a hint of ripples.
