About this work
A grand Victorian mansion sits slightly right of center, its windows aglow with amber lamplight against a slate-blue night. Bare and rust-leaved trees frame both edges, while a line of small costumed children in pointed hats and capes make their way along the foreground path toward the house, carved jack-o'-lanterns glowing on either side.
Moonlight filters softly through hazy clouds, and mist blurs the distant tree line and sky into gentle gradients. Fine linework defines the architecture, set against looser, impressionistic strokes for the foliage and figures. Soft-edged watercolor and gouache on visible paper texture give the scene an aged, antique-print tone and a nostalgic, gently magical feel.
