About this work
Hundreds of carved pumpkins, each lit from within, cover a rolling hillside and shrink toward the horizon. A gnarled leafless tree stands at the crest. Its black branches spread against a sky thick with flying bats.
Heavy storm clouds roll in from the left, and thin forks of lightning flash through them. The paint is laid on thickly, with visible ridges in the clouds and the soil. The warm orange pumpkin glow stands out against the cold, smoky grays and browns, and the scene feels dramatic and slightly theatrical.
