Dense, layered foliage fills the whole canvas, with broad dark-green leaves, spiky grasses and fern fronds pressed close together. Pink, yellow and pale blue lotus flowers rise among them. A full moon glows in a deep blue night sky above the canopy.

A woman with long dark hair rests on a red velvet sofa at the centre, one arm stretched out. Lions, toucans, parrots and a small monkey watch from the leaves. The flat, carefully outlined shapes and the still, hushed light give the scene a dreamlike, storybook feeling in the manner of Henri Rousseau's The Dream.
