About this work
A cluster of small, simplified houses in teal, coral, ochre, gray and cream sits in a band across the middle of this panoramic winter scene. Their roofs are heaped with snow, chimneys send up faint wisps of smoke, and a small cupola crowns one of the larger buildings. A single snow-dusted blue spruce stands near the center, while tall bare trees frame the edges and trace delicate branches against the hazy sky.
The light is soft and overcast, warmed only by the glow of tiny windows. Snow falls as scattered cream dots across the whole scene, and a faint path and a loose broken fence curve through the open field in front. Palette-knife and flat-brush strokes give the surface a chalky matte finish, with fine dry-brush linework for branches and fences and subtle scuffed patches like an aged painting, lending a quiet, nostalgic storybook feel.
