A small hummingbird hangs in mid-air with its wings raised, its long beak aimed at the large dusty-rose blossoms in the centre of the meadow. Around it, blooms in pink, slate blue and cream are crowded among green leaves and tall stems, painted in thick, buttery strokes.

Behind the flowers a simple wooden rail fence crosses the field. Soft green pastures, rounded trees and pale blue hills recede under a creamy sky. A network of fine cracks runs across the surface, giving the scene the look of an old, much-loved painting and adding to its quiet, nostalgic charm.
