In the manner of a medieval millefleur tapestry, flowers cover the entire surface with no horizon or sky. A cream unicorn with a long spiral horn reclines on the left, head raised, forelegs stretched toward a leaping tan stag with branching antlers who faces it from the right. A small brown songbird perches at the upper left and a small cream rabbit sits at the upper right. The animals share one scale and are woven in among the flowers around them.

Red poppies, pink and cream daisies, blue bellflowers, thistle-like blooms and berry sprigs crowd a deep forest green ground among lush, stylized leaves. The work is rendered in hand-stitched wool, with a visible grid of tiny cross-stitch and tent-stitch cells and a slightly faded, antique look. The softly stylized animals have simple stitched eyes and cast no shadows.
