A young rabbit looks straight out of the picture, cropped so that only its upright ears, bright dark eyes and soft face show above the bottom edge. The fur is painted in layers of cream, buff and light brown. The inner ears are a soft rose.

The background is a flat taupe field scraped and dragged with broad palette-knife strokes, so it has a lot of texture. The restrained palette and the empty space above the animal give the portrait a quiet, minimal feel with a touch of humor.
