Santa is seen up close and in profile, looking off to the side with a quiet, thoughtful expression. His rosy cheeks and lined brow are modelled in soft pinks and warm creams, and his russet hat and heavy white trim sit against a smoky, dark ground.

The beard and fur are laid on in thick, buttery strokes, with flecks of pale blue and butter yellow catching the light. Scattered white flakes of snow fall across the dark backdrop, which keeps the mood hushed and old-fashioned.
