A crowded village market square at dusk, painted in thick, textured strokes. Half-timbered houses lean in on both sides, their windows and sills lit by small jack-o'-lanterns. Strings of orange lights hang from canvas-roofed stalls selling candied apples and baked goods.

In the middle of the cobbles, small figures in white ghost sheets and pointed witch hats move among adults in long coats. Bundles of dried corn stand against the lamp posts. A scarecrow with a pumpkin head watches from one stall, and smoke curls up into a stormy, amber-streaked sky. The mood is warm, festive and a little eerie.
