About this work
A glossy black vinyl record spins on a wooden turntable, filling the frame off-center in a tight three-quarter overhead view. A brass tonearm angles in diagonally from the upper right, its needle poised just above the grooves. Along the lower edge, a sliver of the wooden control panel shows glowing amber indicator lights and a chrome knob, and a few record sleeves lean softly out of focus in the lower left corner.
A single warm lamp rakes low across the grooves, catching highlights on the brass and the amber dials while the rest of the scene falls into deep warm shadow. The painting draws on mid-century still life and vintage hi-fi advertising illustration, in a warm, chiaroscuro-inspired realism.
