At dusk, a small log cabin with warmly lit windows and a tall Christmas tree strung with glowing lights stand slightly left of center on a snowy rise. A weathered split-rail fence winds across the broad, open snowfield in the foreground, and rolling hills carry a distant line of pines toward the horizon.

A hazy pastel sunset glows behind rolling storm clouds, filling the upper half of the picture. The warm amber light of the windows and tree lights contrasts with the cool blue-white snow, and heavy palette-knife strokes build the clouds and snowdrifts in a loose, painterly hand.
