About this work
Four witch silhouettes on broomsticks fly in a loose horizontal line across the middle of the frame, passing in front of a large glowing full moon set slightly left of center. Small bat silhouettes scatter above them, and a dark, uneven treeline runs along the bottom edge.
Soft moonglow radiates outward into a heavy atmospheric haze, with no hard highlights or defined shadows elsewhere. The witches and bats are rendered as loose, slightly blurred flat silhouettes rather than crisp cutouts.
The oil painting shows woven canvas grain throughout, with soft, smoky brushwork in the sky and looser, drier strokes in the treeline. Deep umber, tobacco brown and parchment cream give the scene a moody, nostalgic feel.
