About this work
Four heirloom pumpkins, two burnt orange and two antique cream, sit side by side in a dense cluster. Dried autumn wildflowers in deep wine burgundy and dusty gold-tan surround them and rise on tall, curling stems, joined by seed pods and a spiky dried thistle head, with muted sage-green foliage at the base.
Soft, even light and a plain, textured backdrop leave generous negative space above the arrangement. Heavy palette-knife impasto leaves thick ridges of paint on the pumpkins and petals, while the pale background shows the woven canvas grain.
