A tiered cake and its single lit candle are built from ridges of thick white paint. Daubs of pink, turquoise, lime and gold sit on the frosting like sprinkles.

The painted surface around the cake is also heavily layered, with broad, sweeping knife strokes in cream and white. The palette is mostly white, so the small spots of color stand out, and the cake looks playful and tactile.
