A tall heron with slate-blue plumage and a long yellow bill stands in the shallows, looking left. A weathered log lies across the foreground, with ferns, cattails and broad glossy leaves crowding in from both sides.

Behind the bird, palm trees dissolve into a hazy pink and cream distance. Thick, knife-applied strokes of paint build up the feathers, the leaves and the sky. The texture is tactile and the light gentle and early-morning calm.
