A Dalmatian lies curled on an upholstered armchair with its head on the rolled arm and one paw draped forward. Its warm brown eyes look straight out with a soft, slightly weary gaze. The cream coat and black spots are built from thick, sculpted dabs of paint that catch the light like carved plaster.

The chair is covered in cream and deep green stripes and edged with a carved, glossy brown wooden frame. Behind it, mottled olive and forest green strokes fade into shadow. The heavy impasto texture and the muted, earthy palette give the portrait a quiet, old-master warmth.
