Three women in oversized wide-brim hats stand shoulder to shoulder around a small round café table, each holding a fanned hand of playing cards. They are seen from behind or in soft profile, so no faces are rendered, and their simplified, flattened forms are cropped at mid-thigh. Small glasses of amber liquid and a few scattered cards sit on the tabletop, while a single tall saguaro stands alone at the far left.

The setting is spare: a plain warm-cream backdrop above a band of terracotta ground. Soft, even desert daylight casts no hard shadows. Oil paint applied with a palette knife leaves heavy impasto ridges and scraped edges across the coats, hat brims and wall, giving this quietly social scene a rustic, contemplative warmth.
