Heavy clouds billow across the whole canvas. Their sunlit tops glow in cream and peach, while the undersides sink into shadowy slate and grey-blue. A clear patch of pale blue sky opens at the upper right.

The brushwork is bold and sculptural, with thick ridges of paint where the light hits and smoother, darker sweeps in the shadows. A thin dark strip of land at the bottom edge is the only sign of the ground, which leaves the sky as the whole subject.
