About this work
A large, gentle ghost in a wide-brimmed black witch's hat flies diagonally across the night sky on an old broomstick, its soft cream-white form flowing like a sheet and its eyes simple dark ovals. A glowing full moon sits low behind it and small bats scatter through the haze. Below, a row of pointed-roof cottages lines the skyline with amber windows aglow, jack-o'-lanterns on the rooftops and doorway, a black cat in an attic window and a dark tower spire on the left horizon.
Moonlight and warm window light halo softly through a muted mauve and charcoal sky, with no harsh shadows. Loose brushwork and soft impasto show in the ghost's flowing shape and the clouded sky, over a gentle canvas grain, for a storybook mood that is more charming than menacing.
