About this work
Two enormous, gnarled trees arch inward from either side, their bare branches meeting overhead to frame a small stone cottage with a moss-covered, mounded roof. Warm amber light spills from its windows and open doorway, and from carved jack-o'-lanterns scattered along a weathered stone path strewn with fallen leaves.
Three round, softly rendered ghosts, plain pale sheets with no faces, float toward the door while a black cat pads along the path and bats flit through the hazy background. Loose, blended brushwork and soft mist give the scene a dreamlike storybook feel that is gently eerie rather than frightening.
