A long-haired figure in a pale cream robe walks away from us through tall grass, holding a white lamb on one arm. It echoes the pastoral image of a shepherd carrying a lamb. Poppies, daisies and blue bellflowers speckle the meadow, and the pines beyond dissolve into warm mist.

The brushwork is loose and painterly, with a glowing haze of pale gold in the sky. Soft edges and visible strokes give the scene a tender, peaceful, devotional feel.
