About this work
A single white-tailed doe stands left of center in a meadow, ears alert, looking off to the right toward an open clearing filled with pale fog. Tall dry grasses and scattered white wildflowers, including Queen Anne's lace, crowd the lower edge of the picture, while a dense, hazy mass of foliage anchors the upper left corner.
Soft, overcast morning light spreads evenly with no harsh shadows, and a gentle glow seems to rise from the fog on the right. Sharp foreground grass gives way to blurred trees and mist, so depth comes from softness rather than perspective lines.
The oil painting shows visible canvas weave, blended brushwork, fine hairline cracks and faint aging spots, giving it the quiet, timeworn feel of an antique canvas.
