About this work
Stacked bands of aged cream, slate blue-gray, mauve taupe and faded rust suggest sky, still water and a low, uneven shoreline. A small pale moon, or perhaps a sun, glows near the horizon with a faint halo, the only focal point in an otherwise quiet composition.
The light is soft and hazy, like dusk or dawn, with no hard shadows. Dry-brushed transitions between the bands and a scattering of fine scratches, specks and mottling over visible canvas grain give the surface a worn, weathered feel in the spirit of wabi-sabi.
