A massive wave rolls forward and curls over itself, its glassy green-black face streaked with foam. Spray bursts off the crest and drifts into heavy storm clouds. Inside the barrel, a pale golden light glows against the surrounding gloom.

The paint is thick and sculpted, with creamy palette-knife strokes for the surf and darker, sweeping strokes for the churning water. The result is raw and powerful.
