Open roses in peach, ivory and dusty pink spread across a deep, brooding teal background. Thin branches with glossy dark leaves and a few closed red buds link the blooms. The largest rose, a heavy pink one, sits just left of centre.

The background is built from broad, visible strokes of green, teal and a little rust. The flowers catch a soft, warm light against it. The thick paint and the pale petals set against the near-black greens give the picture a quiet, old-master feel.
