About this work
A large full moon sits low and slightly right of center, partly veiled by a dense band of autumn treetops. Its soft glow radiates outward, warming the amber and rust-toned foliage before fading into a cool, hazy sky.
Two tall, bare-branched trees rise from the lower-left foreground as dark silhouettes, above a deep, undefined band of undergrowth and trunks. Directional brushwork suggests drifting mist or dusk fog. Thick impasto dabs mark the moon and lit leaves, thin scumbled paint forms the sky, and fine dry-brush lines trace the branches, for a serene, nocturnal and quietly eerie mood.
