About this work
Three bats with fully spread wings drift in a loose diagonal from the upper center toward the lower left, painted as flat, ink-black silhouettes with softly ragged edges and small pointed ears. A slim cream crescent moon, opening to the lower left, sits in the right third as the only luminous accent.
The sky is a smoky mass of blended clouds, shifting from dark charcoal on the left to pale misty blue on the right, with no horizon or ground to anchor it. Visible canvas weave, short palette-knife scrapes and a thick, buttery moon give the muted oil painting a quiet, gentle spookiness, with generous empty space around the bats.
