About this work
A line of small children in witch hats, a pale ghost-like cloak and a bonnet walks away from the viewer along a dirt path, drawn toward the warmly lit front door of a two-story colonial farmhouse. They are painted from behind or in distant silhouette with no facial detail, and carved pumpkins cluster along the path and in the foreground.
Two large bare-branched autumn trees with lingering rust-orange leaves arch inward like a natural frame, beneath a pale full moon and faint stars in a hazy indigo sky. Warm light blooms from windows, the open door and carried lanterns against the cool night, and fine speckled flecks add a drifting, sparkling softness. Loose watercolor and gouache with granulated pigment and visible paper grain give it a vintage storybook feel.
