About this work
Raised ribbons of plaster curve across a pale, matte surface, overlapping and parting to form leaf-like and oval shapes. Their edges catch the light and cast thin shadows, so the whole piece reads as a shallow relief sculpture.
The colours are barely apart, from near-white ivory to sandy taupe, and the grainy, hand-troweled texture is easy to see. The result is quiet and tactile, with an unhurried sense of movement.
In the painting
