About this work
Two pheasants, a richly plumed cock and a speckled hen, move quietly through tall dry grass on a rolling autumn hillside. Rosehip branches and feathery seed heads frame them in the foreground, while rusty heather, olive shrubs and a line of slender poplars fade into hazy distant hills.
Soft, overcast light settles over the scene in dusty golds, brick reds and faded greens. The surface is painted with a fine linen-like weave, giving it the calm, aged feel of a vintage countryside oil painting.
