About this work
Angular peaks of clay-brown and umber rock are tipped with creamy white snow. They are made from broad, flat slabs of paint that look like cut stone. Dark, heavily textured boulders fill the foreground and lead the eye up toward the summits.
A smooth, smoky slate-blue sky contrasts with the rough, sculptural surface of the mountains. The thick impasto catches the light along each ridge, so the range feels rugged, cold and monumental.
