About this work
A red gambrel-roofed barn with round hay bales stands right of center against a distant tree line, while a large maple with spreading rust and orange foliage anchors the left third. A dirt path curves through the foreground beside a split-rail wooden fence, leading the eye toward the barn across the open field.
Soft overcast daylight gives diffused shadows and no harsh highlights, and the distant hills dissolve into gentle atmospheric haze. Loose, directional brushstrokes and dabbed foliage give a matte, painterly finish rather than photographic sharpness.
