About this work
Seen from a high vantage point, a rolling valley unfolds in patchwork bands of golden, ochre and olive fields. A dozen or so small whitewashed cottages with terracotta and red roofs are scattered across the hills, with slender dark cypress trees punctuating the landscape and a hazy blue mountain range closing the distance.
The naive, folk-art rendering flattens the hills into blocky, simplified shapes, building depth through overlapping colour planes rather than strict perspective. Chunky directional brushstrokes, cross-hatched strokes in the fields and loose dabs in the foliage sit on visible canvas grain under soft, even daylight.
