A lumpy, hand-built snowman stands front and center. It has coal eyes, a carrot nose, a frayed scarf and a faded red hat with a fur trim. Its twig arms lift as if in greeting, and flurries drift across the dim, smoky background.

The surface looks like an aged oil painting, with thick, scraped strokes in the snow and fine craquelure across the canvas. Bare shrubs and trees recede into the muted gloom behind it. The mood is rustic and slightly melancholy, with a touch of humor.
