A folk-art Santa Claus walks in three-quarter side view toward the right edge, in a long coat with cream fur trim at collar, cuffs and hem over a muted rust-red under-robe. His red hat and full white beard are painted loosely, and a large burlap-toned sack over one shoulder holds wrapped gifts and pine branches with small red berries.

Snow falls in soft flecks across the whole piece. A few snow-dusted pines stand on the right while hazy, open space fills the left. Heavy impasto strokes and palette-knife dabs thicken the fur and coat, and the diffuse overcast light leaves the scene gentle, nostalgic and wintry.
