Bare trees frame a snow-covered village at twilight. Garlands of tiny lights and hanging lanterns trace the riverbank, and the market stalls glow gold. A tall tree topped with a star stands at the center, and a church spire rises behind it against a sky that fades from dark cloud to a faint amber glow.

Villagers in long coats and bonnets gather at the stalls, while a few skaters glide over the dark ice. Tiny reindeer pull a sleigh across the clouds at upper right. The dark, glazed palette and the fine cracking in the paint give the scene an antique, storybook feel.
