A gigantic turkey balloon in a tall striped top hat looms over a snow-dusted city avenue, its fanned feathers glowing against a pale, hazy sky. Below it, a marching band in plumed shakos strides down the wet cobbled street while dark-coated crowds line both sidewalks beneath flags and old stone towers.

The whole scene is rendered in soft charcoal, slate and misty silver, like a faded photograph with gentle grain and softly painterly, slightly blurred figures. Falling snow and diffused winter light give it a quiet, cinematic, old-world Americana mood.
