About this work
The canvas is filled edge to edge by a hanging American flag. Cream stars sit on a worn blue field, and the red and aged-cream stripes ripple with gentle folds that catch the light and cast shadows.
The paint is built up thickly, with ridges, scrapes and cracked patches that look like an old weathered banner. The muted, darkened reds and parchment tones give it a nostalgic, heirloom quality.
